In September 2021 I became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Before that, in February 2021, I was an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA). I have experience and qualifications in various educational settings.

The pathway to the FHEA qualification allowed me to develop my teaching practice, and to reflect upon teaching and learning methodologies in HE, as I became a practitioner who aims to constantly improve her teaching. To prepare for my application I undertook training at the Learning and Teaching Services at the University of Sheffield, which informed my HE pedagogical approaches. My methodology to teaching has a focus on research-lead strategies and collaborative learning. The success of this approach to teaching was demonstrated by feedback from my FHEA application, in which I was highly commended for being an 'an excellent aspiring academic' and for the 'high quality of her [my] teaching'. My evidence-based teaching methodology had a great impact on my students. In their evaluation form they commented that they ‘enjoy[ed] my seminars’, in which all students were encouraged to ‘participate equally’. Particularly they appreciated the fact that the seminars were ‘highly interactive’, and students specially ‘really like[d] the break out rooms at the end’ of the online seminars during the Pandemic.

During my time at the School of English in Sheffield I have produced resources for the undergraduate module EGH21002 Literature and Critical Thought and I have taught on the following modules:

LIT113 Foundations in Literary Study: Biblical and Classical Sources

LIT117 Contemporary Literature

LIT302 Modern Literature

I hold a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and I have been a fully qualified teacher for over nine years in Secondary and Further Education. I am currently Course Leader for Spanish, Literacy Coordinator and Advanced Skills Teacher (AST), teaching AS English Literature, AS/A-Level Spanish, EAL and Literacy Workshops and Tutorial Sessions at Oldham Sixth Form College. My additional responsiblities include being ECT (Early Career Teacher) mentor. I am an examiner for an exam board, and I have run an Exchange Programme (which includes residential trips) with a Spanish College (instituto) for the last eight years.

Academic success is at the core of my teaching practice, the A-level course I lead was awarded the ‘Best value added’ subject in England in 2018. I am committed to producing high quality teaching materials, and supporting and participating in the performance management of other members of staff. Since 2021 I have facilitated CPD projects for groups of staff cross-college to improve teaching and learning in a range of Curriculum Areas. In particular I have focused on implementing research-based Disciplinary Literacy projects on ‘recall and retrieval’ and ‘active reading’ strategies .
